The model walks those thirteen steps in order. If a quote leaves one out, the work still has to happen; the only question is who ends up paying for it.
Missing lines turn red when the job needs them
Untick an item and it stays quiet until the build gets there, then the sheet marks it missing and a tag appears where that work happens in the yard. The low-quote preset drops the four items the site flags as the usual gaps in cheap quotes: the permit, restoration, a cleanout and the video after the work.
The method moves work between lines
Open cut spends most of its effort on the trench, backfill and putting the surface back. Bursting shrinks the digging to two pits and adds a pull. Lining replaces excavation with cleaning, the liner and sealing its ends, and usually leaves the surface alone. Switch methods and the three core lines on the sheet change their wording.

02 /What makes one sewer quote higher than another?
Two quotes for the same house usually differ because they price different scopes, not because one contractor is honest and the other is not. Five things explain most of the gap:
- Where the work starts and ends. Foundation to property line, or all the way to the city main with a road cut.
- Depth and surface. A 2.5 m dig under a concrete driveway costs several times a 1.5 m dig under lawn.
- Method. Open-cut, lining and bursting move cost between excavation, equipment and restoration.
- What is excluded. Permits, restoration, cleanouts and post-work video are often left out of low quotes.
- How surprises are priced. Unit rates for rock, water and extra length — or none at all.

A fair sewer quote is a scope document with a price attached. If you cannot tell from the paper exactly what will be dug, installed, restored and proven, the price has nothing to anchor to. These are the ten items a complete repair or replacement quote carries:

05 /Who pays: owner, city or insurer?
Most Canadian municipalities make the homeowner responsible for the building sewer to the property line and take responsibility for the connection and main beyond it, though some cities put owners on the hook to the main.
